Premiering at the Detroit Auto show, the Coupe and Cabriolet were revealed with a sportier wedge-like design that is far more aggressive than on any other E-class. As sporty as the redesignedwo t-door E-Class models are on the outside, the updated interior takes its luxurious design cues from the sedan and wagon, most notably by relocating of the gear selector from the center console to the column

Part II: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet Design
The new E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet – The ultimate in driving enjoyment: passionate, sporty, intelligent
New features on the coupe and cabriolet include powerful and efficient BlueDIRECT four-cylinder engines with pioneering injection technology and trailblazing assistance systems as part of the “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive” concept. Such Intelligent Drive features include, for example, systems which are able to prevent collisions with crossing vehicles or with pedestrians, Active Lane Keeping Assist, as well as dazzle-free continuous high beam.
The classic Coupé and the four-seater Cabriolet from the Mercedes-Benz E‑Class range are amongst the most desirable vehicles in the executive segment. By combining intelligent, efficient technology with luxurious equipment that offers superb comfort, neither model compromises when it comes to indulging a passion for superlative driving enjoyment. That is why they are regarded as emotion-packed highlights in the successful E-Class family. The design of the exterior and interior alike is fresh and sharp, mirroring the many new technical highlights on board in distinctly athletic fashion.
The extra-sporty members of the E-Class family underline their elite status in their respective segment with a number of true standout features. The E-Class Coupé, for instance, is the only model in its class to come with fully retractable side windows and no B-pillar. The E-Class Cabriolet, meanwhile, sets itself apart from the rest of the executive four-seater cabriolet segment with its automatic AIRCAP system that has undergone further improvement and its AIRSCARF neck-level heating. The latter makes it possible to drive with the roof down whatever the temperature is outside, thereby extending the cabriolet season well into the winter months.
Design: the essence of e-motion
The new look of the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet is largely down to the redesigned front end with new headlamps comprising all functional elements behind a single headlamp lens. The headlamps are fitted with LED low beam and LED daytime running lamps as standard, while all-LED technology is available for the first time in this class as an option. Inside the headlamps, flowing LED fibre-optic cables seem to trace the lines of four “eyebrows”, reinforcing the four-eyed look so typical of the E-Class.
High-tech engines: efficiency meets performance
Both the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet are available with a broad range of powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines – all fitted with ECO start/stop function. New units include the BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines in the E 200 and E 250 Coupé and Cabriolet, which employ the same technology used in the latest six-cylinder units from Mercedes-Benz. Both of the new four-cylinder petrol engines meet the future EU6 emissions standard, while the E 250 even complies with the strict criteria of efficiency class A.
The six-cylinder petrol engines in the E 300, E 350 and E 400 – featuring a biturbo drive for the first time – are also state-of-the-art. The same advanced engine technology enables the V8 in the E 500 Coupé and Cabriolet to achieve outstanding levels of performance and efficiency.
The four-cylinder diesel units featuring the very latest injection technology in the E 220 CDI and E 250 CDI have been made more economical than ever, thanks partly to a re-engineered drivetrain. The V6 diesel engine powering the E 350 BlueTEC has also been overhauled and equipped with clean and efficient second-generation BlueTEC technology, enabling it to already meet the demands of the future EU6 emissions standard today. All diesel-engined Coupé and Cabriolet models have an efficiency class rating of A or A+.
Intelligent assistance systems
In the main markets, both the Coupé and Cabriolet models are fitted as standard with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based proximity and collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist. Also forming part of the standard equipment worldwide is ATTENTION ASSIST, which is now able to warn of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider speed range, and also to inform the driver about their level of alertness and the amount of driving time which has elapsed since their last break. It also offers adjustable sensitivity levels. In addition to this, the list of optional extras includes numerous assistance systems, which are mostly new or offer significantly enhanced functionality.
