As a self-proclaimed home cook and avid entertainer, I’m always on the lookout for new and beautiful tableware and flatware to add to my collection. Recently, I stumbled upon Year & Day, a brand that offers modern and stylish dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and serving pieces.
Year & Day was founded in 2017 by Kathryn Duryea, was looking for a way to combine her love of design with her passion for entertaining. Duryea noticed that there was a gap in the market for well-designed, high-quality tableware and flatware that was both functional and affordable, so she embarked on the mission of creating a brand that would offer exactly that.
The name “Year & Day” is focused on time and the idea that how we spend our days is how we spend our years and to really celebrate life’s moments around the table, both big and small.
Since I had just moved and my old collection was chipped, scratched and missing various pieces, I decided to start from scratch and purchased Year & Day’s dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and two serving pieces. I was immediately impressed with the packaging when they arrived – each piece was carefully wrapped and protected during shipping. The attention to detail in the packaging set the tone for the quality of the products inside.
Well-designed, high-quality tableware and flatware that is the perfect combination of function and beauty
The dinnerware collection comes in a range of colors, including but not limited to, white, blush, charcoal, and navy – more than enough match your kitchen or personality. I personally opted to mix and match the sets for a more curated look and was immediately struck by the depth and richness of all the colors, with a specific fondness for midnight (charcoal) and fog (light grey). The pieces are all made from high-quality porcelain and are both dishwasher and microwave safe, which makes them perfect for everyday use and capable of easily withstanding the clumsiness of my 4 year old daughter. The dishes are also stackable, which is a great space-saving feature that also makes them beautiful displayed on open shelving.
The glassware collection is equally impressive. I opted for the wine glasses and was immediately impressed by the weight and feel of them, as they seem perfectly balanced in the hand. They are made from lead-free crystal and are both durable and elegant. The glasses have a slight taper towards the top, which helps to concentrate the aromas of the wine, and they’re also dishwasher safe, which makes cleanup a breeze.
The flatware collection is available in a range of finishes, including gold, silver, and black. I opted for the gold set and was blown away by how stunning they looked on the table. The flatware is made from stainless steel that again boasts durability and functionality, and the weight of the flatware is just right – not too heavy, but not too light.
Finally, to complete my collection I opted for two serving pieces: the Charcoal Platter and the Large White Serving Bowl. Both pieces are made from stoneware, with the platter being the perfect size for serving appetizers or charcuterie while the bowl is great for salads or pasta dishes. Both pieces are also dishwasher safe, speeding up after dinner cleanup.
Overall, I have been extremely impressed with Year & Day’s line of tableware and flatware. The attention to detail in the design was evident from the moment I opened the box, and the craftsmanship and quality of the products were exquisite. I would highly recommend Year & Day to anyone looking for stylish and functional tableware and flatware that’s perfect for any home kitchen.
