The chairman of Daimler and head of Mercedes-Benz on the sales outlook for the luxury auto brand.

Have pricing power and health finally returned to the auto industry?

I think Mercedes has tremendous momentum right now. That is very much based on our great new products. The new Mercedes AMG-GT sports car is an obvious example.

Aren’t the economic troubles in the euro zone having an impact?

We are basically growing everywhere. In Europe, where the market is pretty slow, we’ve been growing at about 16 percent, thanks to strong product and great demand. We are defined by our capacity. We could sell more if we could produce more.

You have an E-Class, an S-Class, an M-Class, and a G-Class series of cars. Don’t you risk diluting the brand?

We think the opposite is true. With the new compact cars like the CL, new and younger customers are coming to us. At the same time, the S-Class is considered the best car in the world by many people. And this combination gives us more momentum, more dynamics.
