Nestled on the shores of snowy Ukraine lies Sergey Makno Architects’ new project, entitled “Father’s House.” Designed for the Sergey’s own family, the concept was to create “a house of lines,” resulting in a beautiful mixture of concrete and glass that serves to create a minimalistic yet stunning lakefront retreat.
Alexandr Kovpak, the chief architect of Father’s House, notes the importance of the concrete used in the project: “from a professional point of view, this is an architectural concrete, and, from the creative one, it is a concrete of poetry.” In addition to the traditional rooms, including bedrooms, a kitchen and living areas, one of Father House’s most unique features is the art gallery, spanning the entire home.
Built on a pedestal and framed by a 450 cm ribbon window, the art gallery notes a ceiling higher than the main building, emphasizing the art on display and allowing it to be suspended closer to the lighting source. Other notable design elements include outdoor terraces, a garden of stones hidden behind a round hole in the exterior wall, and a hidden pool area.
