Mercedes-Benz is extending the model range of the successfully launched S-Class with the particularly economical S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, the high-traction S 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC, the luxurious S 600 flagship model and the S 65 AMG, which is the dynamic top performer in the segment. The new models can be ordered with immediate effect, and will be in dealer showrooms in March 2014.
Just a short time after the model changeover, the new S-Class has already taken the top sales position in its segment worldwide. Now Mercedes-Benz is extending the range with the particularly economical S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, the luxurious S 600 flagship model and the high-performance S 65 AMG Saloon. With combinations of short and long wheelbases, rear-wheel drive and 4MATIC, the S-Class range now therefore boasts 16 versions only months after the market launch.
New optional extras are also available in the form of the head-up display (from €1201.90), heated windscreen (from €499.80) and touchpad (€178.50). Two new designo interiors in satin beige/titanium grey pearl or satin beige/satin red pearl are optionally available to bring colour into the interior (each costing €3629.50 or €892.50 for AMG models). COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST now provides protection against typical rear-end collisions in dangerous traffic situations from 7 km/h (previously: above 30 km/h).
Following the successful launch of the S 400 HYBRID, the second hybrid model in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is now entering the market: The S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID makes do with 4.4 litres of diesel per 100 km in the combined cycle (CO2: 115 g/km), and complies with the criteria for energy efficiency class A+. This means that over the course of ten years, Mercedes-Benz has cut fuel consumption in the 150 kW performance class by almost half.
In the S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, Mercedes-Benz has combined the 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine developing 150 kW (204 hp) with a powerful hybrid module. Its 20 kW electric motor is positioned between the internal combustion engine and the automatic transmission. It assists the diesel engine when the car is accelerating (boost effect) and, in alternator mode, is used for the recuperation of braking energy, although driving under electric power alone is also possible. The S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is available with either a short or long wheelbase. Prices: €80,920 and €86,453.50 (recommended retail price including 19% VAT for Germany).
One of the world’s most economical V6 diesels is now also available with all-wheel drive: the S 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC develops an output of 190 kW (258 hp) and 620 Nm of torque from a displacement of 2987 cc. With a combined fuel consumption of 5.9 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres (both with short and long wheelbase), it achieves the same level as the preceding four-cylinder model S 250 CDI. The S 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC with the second-generation AdBlue® emission control system costs €84,728 and €90,261.50 respectively.
The S 600 is the new flagship model in the S-Class, available only with a long wheelbase and luxurious appointments. With an output of 390 kW (530 hp), its V12 biturbo engine develops even more output than its predecessor rated at 380 kW (517 hp). The displacement of the engine has increased from 5513 to 5980 cc. Maximum torque is 830 Nm from 1900 rpm. The extensive standard appointments of the S 600 (available from €164,279.50) underline its flagship status. The LED Intelligent Light System, the MAGIC BODY CONTROL suspension with ROAD SURFACE SCAN and the Driving Assistance package Plus all come as standard, for example.
The Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG is the only high-performance 12-cylinder automobile from a German premium manufacturer – and is a car with a pedigree: the first generation of the S 65 AMG was launched in 2003, while the second generation was produced from 2006 until 2013. The new Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG once again sets new standards as the most powerful car in this competitive segment. Twelve cylinders, biturbocharging, an output of 463 kW (630 hp) and torque of 1000 Nm ensure outstanding performance and effortless dynamism. Compared with the previous model, fuel consumption has been reduced by 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined). The AMG sports suspension based on MAGIC BODY CONTROL features ROAD SURFACE SCAN as standard. Like the preceding model, the new S 65 AMG is available only with a long wheelbase; the price for Germany (incl. 19% VAT) is €234,906.
