Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche has stated that the next generation 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-class will be revealed in Hamburg on May 15.
“The S-class is the most important car of all to us, Its success makes us stronger going forward,” said Zetsche. A statement we couldn’t agree more with, especially now that the Maybach brand is gone, being replaced by a broader and more luxurious range of Mercedes-Benz S-Class models. The Mercedes-Benz brand has far better name recognition and a stronger base which should cause for greater success in the super luxury market.
“We can sell more cars at better prices with the S-class,” Zetsche said. “Pushing the S-class upmarket will also further strengthen and balance the Mercedes brand at the top end just as we are going smaller with the A-class range of cars.”
Zetsche also confirmed that being revealed next year will be the next generation C-Class, another important model for Mercedes, especially in the Chinese market. Strong sales of the new E-Class and upcoming C-Class will be necessary to close the gap between Mercedes, Audi and BMW.
