New spy photos have emerged showcasing the 2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG undergoing a round of testing near the Nurburgring. Unfortunately heavy masking and body panels make viewing the ML’s design elements difficult to discern, to say the least, however a few attributes that at present are known include a double louvre grille, LED headlights and a more upright front end to meet more stringent European pedestrian safety standards. Expect the 2012 M-Class’ wheelbase length to remain similar to that of the current model’s (perhaps a bit shorter in an effort to increase efficiency); also in the ML63 variant, look for AMG’s new twin-turbocharged 5.5-Liter V8 with an output of 544 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque (an optional Performance Pack could boost output to 571 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque). The 2012 M-Class is expected to hit the market in the middle of 2011.
We’ll keep you posted as any new details of the 2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG emerge; in the meantime, check out the collection of next-generation M-Class spy photos in the gallery below. Thanks to Motor Trend and Motor Authority for the photos.
