AMG stands for Aufrecht Melcher Großaspach – the last names of the founding fathers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher along with Aufrecht’s birthplace of Großaspach
The first AMG model developed after Daimler-Benz AG and AMG signed a cooperation contract was the Mercedes C63 AMG in 1993
In 2005, Mercedes-AMG became solely owned by Daimler AG when Aufrecht sold his remaining shares
AMG also provides engines for the Zonda and Huayra cars including the M120 exclusively for the Pagani. It is the largest displacement naturally aspirated engine provided by AMG
In 2013, AMG reached a partnership with Aston Martin to provide engines and components for the next generation of Aston Martin vehicles
The only AMG car not to follow the “one man, one engine” policy was a CLS 63 AMG that was built by one AMG mechanic with the help of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher
In 1989, Jochen Mass, Manuel Reuter and Stanley Dickens won the Le Mans 24-hour race in a Sauber C9 AMG
