No doubt you read that title twice, but yes, you are reading it right, Mercedes-Benz is planning to build a pickup truck by the end of the decade.  With Mercedes already a strong contender in the commercial van and truck segment, there is little doubt that a Mercedes-Benz pickup will be a hit in the luxury truck market.  The only problem we have with Mercedes’ truck plans is that they made no mention of bringing a truck to the U.S., instead focusing on Latin America, South Africa, Australia, and Europe.

“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets,” says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman Daimler.

“We will enter this segment with our distinctive brand identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are typical of the brand with regard to safety, comfort, powertrains, and value,” Zetsche said.

Stay tuned.
