Spy photos of the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz Gullwing continue to emerge, with a number of shots being published today that show the model testing on the infamous Nürburgring. Due to the heavy masking, little is revealed about the model that wasn't already known, but it certainly is fun to finally see the next Gullwing on the Ring.
As for its name, I'm still hesitant calling the new Gullwing either the SLS or the SLC. After another quick scan of the USPTO database I still wasn't able to find either name registered to Daimler, although interestingly enough, there was another letter combination that at least bears mentioning. It's the name held by the 300 horsepower Mercedes race car that made its debut in 1931, a specially lightened version of the SSK that helped Rudolf Caracciola win the Mille Miglia. That name, of course, would be "SSKL," an abbreviation that stood for "Super – Sport – Kurz – Leicht" ("Kurz" meaning short and "Leicht" meaning light).
A fitting name for the next Gullwing? I think so.
We will of course keep you posted as any new details of the new generation Mercedes-Benz Gullwing (or possibly Mercedes-Benz SSKL) emerge; in the meantime, keep scrolling to view a number of Mercedes Gullwing spy photos below (click to enlarge), then head over to GlobalMotors.net where you can find not one but two different collections of Gullwing spy pictures in their entirety.
Enjoy ladies and gentlemen.
And to Andrus: many thanks again for the tip my good sir; we sincerely appreciate it.
