Aiming to diversify its golfing sponsorship activities, Mercedes has announced today that in addition to being the title sponsor of the Mercedes-Benz Championships in Kapalua/Hawaii and Cologne, they'll also be partnering with the globally-renowned Masters tournament in Augusta. The Masters, the first of the year's four "majors," is considered to be the world’s most important and most prestigious golf tournament.

According to Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President with responsibility for Brand Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars:  "For our brand, this partnership with the Augusta National Golf Club is not just a fantastic platform but also a great honor.  We look forward to the Masters in Augusta. With this commitment, we are able to communicate the close ties of Mercedes-Benz with golfing even more intensively and on a global scale."

As for the company's involvement with the tournament, on the occasion of the Masters, Mercedes-Benz will provide exclusive transportation services; and, together with the Augusta National Golf Club, accompany the entire Masters tournament in communicative terms on several international platforms.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Mercedes-Benz partner of the Augusta Masters

The brand’s golfing activities will be crowned with its commitment to the Golf Masters in Augusta. In addition to being title sponsor of the Mercedes-Benz Championships in Kapalua/Hawaii and Cologne, Mercedes-Benz is thus expanding its activities in golf with the sponsoring of the world’s most important tournament.

Two brands – each steeped in tradition – will join forces in future. Mercedes-Benz, the automotive premium brand, will be expanding its diversified golfing activities from 2008 by partnering the globally renowned Masters in Augusta. This more than complements the golf sponsorship activities which have to date been encompassing the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne, organized since this year by two-time Masters winner Bernhard Langer, the tournament of the same name in Kapalua/Hawaii, which has been in existence since 1994, and the Mercedes Trophy customer tournaments which have been staged throughout the world for two decades.

“For our brand, this partnership with the Augusta National Golf Club is not just a fantastic platform but also a great honor,” says Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice President with responsibility for Brand Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars. “We look forward to the Masters in Augusta. With this commitment, we are able to communicate the close ties of Mercedes-Benz with golfing even more intensively and on a global scale.”

The Masters, the first of the four “majors”, is considered to be the world’s most important and most prestigious golf tournament. Every year in spring, the golfing elite meet at the Augusta National Golf Club in the Southern United States. The green jacket for the winner is one of the most coveted symbols in sports. Victory in the Masters comes with life-long authorization to compete in this tournament as well as membership in one of the world’s most renowned clubs.

The premium standards of both the Augusta National Golf Club and the Mercedes-Benz brand are a perfect fit. Over and beyond this, the Masters and Mercedes-Benz also have interesting analogies in terms of their respective history. The Masters was staged in Augusta for the first time in 1934. In the same year, the W 25 racing car triggered the legend of the Silver Arrows for Mercedes-Benz.

On the occasion of the Masters, Mercedes-Benz will provide exclusive transportation services and, together with the Augusta National Golf Club, accompany the entire Masters tournament in communicative terms on several international platforms.
