This weekend marked the sixth F1 race of the season for the McLaren Mercedes team in Barcelona, Spain. Unfortunately, the results were much like they've been in this season's earlier events - disappointing.
For Kimi Raikkonen, the weekend started poorly, with the Finn qualifying in ninth position. Despite his poor placement on the grid, Kimi showed his aggressive streak early, immediately accelerating from ninth place up to fifth going into the first turn...

|
|

Earlier this week we brought you Auto Bild's photo illustration depicting what they thought an updated SL Gullwing might look like; but at the time, no specifics were given.
Today, the German publication has added further fuel to the stoke the rumor flames, outlining a few things they believe might be found on a possible Gullwing revival.
According to the article, if such a vehicle is in the works, it's being headed up not by Mercedes, but rather by the AMG team located in Affalterbach. The article continues by stating the vehicle will be powered by a 6.3-Liter V8 Biturbo, delivering approximately 750 horsepower...

Reuters is reporting today that after the latest round of job cuts, DaimlerChrysler is aproximately 1,000 workers short of the number of employees needed to build the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
According to the article, increased demand for the new model means production at the Sindelfingen plant must rise 13,000 units by the end of October.
To compensate, working hours for employees will be raised by one hour, with additional help expected to be provided by workers on short-term contracts and part-time holiday fill-ins during the summer months...

In keeping with this morning's review trend, a reader by the name of Shiv pointed us to a Top Gear article in which they share their thoughts on the newest Mercedes S65 AMG.
As was the case with the previous S65 AMG review and as I'm sure will continue to be the case with the majority of future S65 reviews, the author, although pointing out the Mercedes' strengths, questions the vehicle's relevance and whether or not it's worth the added cost over a standard S550...

While browsing our inbox this gloomy May afternoon, we stumbled upon an email from a reader by the name of Daniel. In his email, Daniel, being the kind-hearted soul he is, took the time to point us to a story our good friends over at Motorpasion ran today.
It turns out, Motorpasion recently received a few fresh pictures of the upcoming 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class testing in Barcelona, Spain. Although they weren't able to procure any spy shots from the front, they did publish two from the back, both of which show the new CL with a delightfully thin disguise and both of which give a pretty good idea what the CL's sumptuous rear end will look like...

| Are Job Cuts Looming At MBUSA? |
| Posted on May 11, 2006 at 12:45 PM CST |

|
|
Before I begin this story, let me preface by saying that I have somewhat of a "boy who cried wolf" complex. I'm not a big fan of rumors, especially unfounded ones, so with most of the stories I run, I try to give as much supporting evidence as possible.
This story, however, has little basis - it's simply the word of one of our readers. Despite this fact, I still felt compelled to run the story, and I'll leave it up to you to make your own judgments.
According to the reader's email, DaimlerChrysler is currently deliberating what jobs need to be cut at MBUSA, with a formal announcement being made in the next several months. He believes the marketing department will be the first to feel the wrath of the layoffs, which, after the ridiculous R-Class marketing campaign doesn't come as much surprise. He also believes the IT, finance and HR departments may be moved to DaimlerChrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills to reduce expenditures...
