In what began as a rumor, it's being reported today that veteran employees of Montvale-based Mercedes-Benz USA are being offered voluntary buyout packages as part of the DaimlerChrysler's worldwide cost-cutting measures.
Although the specific details of the buyout terms will not be available until Monday when the workers meet with the human resources department, it is known that the packages will be made available to employees with at least 10 years of service with the company.
As for how many workers MBUSA expects to opt for the buyout package, according to Donna Boland, spokeswoman for MBUSA, the company has "no target" number.
"We are putting this out there and we'll see what employees elect to take advantage of this. We're not working toward a number." Boland stated. "On the other hand, if we only get three takers, that won't do a hell of a lot to increase our efficiency."
We'll keep you posted as more details of this story emerge. In the meantime, head over to North Jersey to read more about MBUSA's cost-cutting measures.
