For our second R-Class story of the day, Mercedes has released a summary of the key new systems available on the fall lineup of everyone's favorite four-wheel drive minivan.

We've already mentioned several, including flashing brake lights, DISTRONIC and LINGUATRONIC, but if you'd like to view a more extensive list that gives a quick overview of what each system does, this press release does exactly that.

To learn more, keep scrolling for the full list.

New Systems in the Mercedes R-Class*

Adaptive brake lights: The brake lights flash in emergency braking situations to warn drivers approaching from behind. The rapid flashing helps reduce drivers’ reaction times. As a result, the braking distance can be reduced by up to 5.50 metres at 100 km/h. Standard equipment
Auxiliary heater: The system heats or ventilates the interior. The remote control has a range of up to 300 metres. Optional extra
DISTRONIC: A radar sensor in the radiator grille scans the area in front of the R-Class to a distance of about 150 metres. It warns the driver if there is not enough distance to the vehicle in front. If the proximity control system is switched on, the system automatically adjusts the distance to the vehicle in front in line with the car’s current speed. Optional extra
Heated multifunction steering wheel: Car radio, telephone, navigation system and other devices can all be operated from the standard-fitted multifunctional steering wheel. The leather-covered steering wheel can be equipped with an optional electric heating system. Optional extra
Infrared-reflecting laminated glass: An invisible coating of pure silver filters out ultraviolet rays and reflects the infrared light in the solar spectrum. Compared to glass with a conventional green tint, the overall transmission of energy into the interior is reduced from 60 to approximately 47 percent, thanks to the infrared reflection at the windscreen. Optional extra
LINGUATRONIC: The voice control system developed by Mercedes-Benz can be used to operate the car phone, audio system and navigation system. In this way LINGUATRONIC reduces the driver’s workload and provides considerable benefits with regard to driving safety. Optional extra
Luxury seat: Electric fans in the seat cushions and backrests take in cool air at floor level and distribute it evenly over the surfaces of the seats via plastic ducts and a special woven ventilation pad. Because of the fine perforation of the leather covering, all seat areas can be cooled. Optional in conjunction with leather upholstery
Rain sensor: The latest version of the sensor has two sensitivity levels that can be set manually. Standard equipment
Reversing camera: The camera shows the area behind the car on the driver’s COMAND display. The camera automatically switches on when the automatic transmission is set to “R”. Optional extra
Run-flat tyres: This type of tyre has self-supporting side walls that support the tyre in the event of a loss of pressure. This enables the driver to continue to the next workshop at up to 80 km/h (up to 50 kilometres with a partial load). Optional extrain conjunction with 19-inch wheels
TV tuner: A TV tuner will be available for the R-Class beginning in late 2006. It will allow the vehicle to receive both analogue and digital TV programmes. This means it is prepared for the new digital television format. Optional extra
Tyre pressure monitoring system: A display indicator keeps the driver informed about the inflation pressure of each tyre. Optional extra
