Timescale: Key dates
- 1999: DaimlerChrysler Communications is given the assignment to design a new Mercedes-Benz Museum
- 2000: Stuttgart-Untertürkheim is chosen as the location
- 2001: Architectural competition
January 2002 End of the architectural competition, 1st prize: UN studio van Berkel & Bos, Amsterdam
- March 2002: Approval of the new building design
- September 17, 2003: Foundation stone is laid
- From September 2003: Construction work begins
- April 11, 2004: Mercedes-Jellinek-Straße is officially opened
- March 3, 2005: Topping-out ceremony
- March 2005: Work on the interior begins
- October 2005: First vehicle exhibits are put in place, installation of further exhibits and media
- End of January 2006: All exhibits in place, followed by: Lighting, installation of technical equipment, final positioning of exhibits (duration 4 - 6 weeks)
- April 2006: Start of a six-week trial period
- May 19, 2006: Opening ceremony for the Mercedes-Benz Museum
